The Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement
services to the residents of Colfax County and security
services to the Court System. The Sheriff’s
Office is mandated to serve documents (civil process)
issued by District and Magistrate courts, as well
as transport prisoners into and out of Colfax County.
The Sheriff's Office serves as Colfax County's principal law
enforcement agency in accordance with New Mexico State Law. The primary
responsibility of the agency is to provide law enforcement services to
county residents. The Sheriff assigns patrols to proactively deter
criminal activity, promote traffic safety and respond to calls for
service and other emergencies.
The Sheriff has concurrent jurisdiction with local law enforcement
agencies and cooperates closely with authorities and local agencies.
The Sheriff's office is available to provide, or assist with
investigative services and training to other enforcement agencies
within Colfax County.
The Sheriff is an elected position and is authorized to appoint
deputies to assist in law enforcement and to appoint an under sheriff
and executive secretary to serve at will.
The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the registration
