Balloon Rally Raton
Thousands of residents of Colfax County as well as seasonal visitors and vacationers were witness to one of the most amazing spectacles in the Southwest. The 12th Annual, "Santa Fe Trail Balloon Rally" got underway at dusk, Saturday July 2nd at "La Mesa Park Airport" in Raton, NM. After a hearty pancake breakfast, 25 hot-air balloon pilots, their crews and a multitude of participants began a vigil to unravel, inflate and send their balloons aloft.

Hot Air Ballooning in Raton is one of the counties time-honored traditions. Participating pilots come from all over New Mexico and the rest of the nation to take part in the three-day event each year, as a prelude to 4th of July fireworks and celebrations. The Balloon Rally is big enough to leave a Big! impression yet small enough where everyone can get up close and talk to the Pilots and participate if they want to. Sometimes they even get a ride!!!

"I love the Raton Rally." said one pilot from Albuquerque. You can't beat it. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is great and the scenery is amazing." We thank all the pilots, participants, volunteers and sponsors and look forward to your return next summer.
